Making Democracy Work

The Claremont Area League strongly supports the City of Claremont's effort to buy the local water company.

In 2005,the League of Women Voters of the Claremont Area appointed a Task Force to study water services and issues involved in the City buying the water company. We offered residents the results of this study. The report seeks to provide background information to help the public understand this policy issue. The study was revised in 2006.

As a result of this study the League adopted a water position which concluded with this statement:

"Support for public acquisition of the local water system, converting the privately owned company to a city-owned water company by the use of public financing, believing that public control is worth the cost, even if high, and has long-range advantages to rate-payers and to the community."
